Drive yourself wild in FUEL
Hold on tight to the steering wheel - Codemasters' racing game has some rather usual conditions for you to drive through.
FUEL is all about racing - and racing big. Graced with a Guinness World Record award for the largest playable area ever created in a console game, the Asobo Studios developed title doesn't skimp on size. Thrown into a large open world, FUEL dares you to race through its massive environments of desert, mountains, forests and more.
Snow, sleet or shine
This is no ordinary racing, however. FUEL is set in a post apocalyptic world where global warming has made things a little hazardous. Not only do you have to deal with the remains of abandoned shacks and broken down, burnt out vehicles littering the roads, there's also a little issue of the weather.
FUEL isn't content with lashing rain on you - here you'll be driving within gritty sandstorms, dangerous tornadoes and even storms where lightning strikes trees, setting them ablaze. There's a lot to keep your eyes open for within the massive landscape, and your rival drivers aren't infallible - they're just as likely to fall victim to any number of these dangers, too.
So that's around 5,000 square miles of game world, 75 vehicles (including dirt bikes, roadsters, SUVs, and hovercrafts) and perilous driving conditions. Better strap yourself in...
A whole new world
FUEL is broken down into several parts. You can race in a Career mode and take part in over 70 main events, including checkpoint racing, time trials and circuit races. You can also take part in around 190 challenges, which have a number of varied ways to test your driving ability such as Seek N Destroy (where you have to ram rival cars within a time limit to put them out of the race) and Endurance races.
Succeeding in these means more parts of the game's map becomes open for exploration, giving you the chance to leave the circuit and explore off the beaten track. There you can enjoy glorious vistas, get a feel for FUEL's world or unlock more challenges, zones or liveries for your vehicles.
There's also the ability to race against friends in the multiplayer mode, with up to 16 online players able to drive through the world, engaging in Career races, a free ride or even a custom race editor to let you create any kind of race you want.
It's a gas gas gas
FUEL caters to your own experience, whether that's ravaged racing or scenic cruising - looking beautiful all the time, regardless of if you're driving through the eye of a storm with dirt and dust being kicked up around you and your friends, or having a gentle midnight drift out to the edge of the ocean.
Want a ride? Let FUEL truly fuel those ambitions.
