PlayStation / PS one format software
PS one disc titles are playable on PlayStation 3 through software emulation and this is available on all PlayStation 3 models. The vast majority of PS one format software titles are playable, including PS one Classic titles downloaded from PlayStation Store, although bear in mind that full compatibility is not guaranteed.
PlayStation 2 format software
PlayStation 2 software is not compatible with PlayStation 3. However, some discontinued models such as PlayStation 3 60GB (Model Number: CECHC02*), support limited compatibility with some PlayStation 2 software.
* The model number can be found on a sticker on the back of the PlayStation 3 system.
Although some titles are not playable on PS3, there is an extensive catalogue of downloadable games including full game releases, retro hits, minis and PS one Classics available to download straight to your PS3 from PlayStation Store.
