Greatness from small beginnings
Suited, booted and finding himself in a perilous situation once more, wisecracking fortune hunter Nathan Drake returns to PlayStation 3 to find a bruising welcome party in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.
London's seedy backstreets play host to the settling of a 20-year-old score, as Drake and his mentor and sidekick Victor Sullivan try to flush out an old acquaintance and safeguard a family heirloom once and for all. Yet Drake's desire to revisit his past threatens to engulf him in something far more sinister, an ancient plot casting a shadow as far back as the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.
Swapping Europe for the harsh sands of the Middle East, Drake sets off on his most daring adventure yet, inspired by Lawrence of Arabia's pursuit of the fabled Atlantis of the Sands, buried in the Rub' al-Khali desert. Along the way he will face the full force of a centuries-old occult organisation determined to reach the legendary city first and prevent its terrible secret from being revealed.
Amid flying bullets and flailing fists, Drake realises his quest for unimaginable wealth has turned into a desperate bid for survival – and to win, he must confront his darkest fears.
Adventure and danger as epic as that facing Nathan Drake deserves a truly dazzling stage, and that's exactly what Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception delivers on PS3.
Whether you're embarking on a night-time break-in at a Syrian citadel, flitting through crowds in a busy Colombian market or creeping through disused service tunnels beneath London, Drake's journey is never less than breathtaking.
And when a hike through a beautifully recreated French forest – complete with rays of brilliant sunlight piercing lush green foliage – turns into a lung-busting dash through a burning chateau, you'll find your imagination lit as fiercely as the once grand old house.
Add even more intensity to Drake's trail of discovery by playing Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception in stereoscopic 3D. Slip on a pair of 3D compatible glasses, settle in front of a 3D TV and get ready to feel like you're right there among the sand dunes and scorched city walls of the Empty Quarter.
Throw in a stirring orchestral soundtrack that swells and rumbles along with the action, and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception becomes an unforgettable, Hollywood-style extravaganza for the eyes, ears and mind.
Pull no punches
Imagine being at the very centre of your own rough and tumble action movie, with a ready supply of one-liners, charm and bravery in the face of hulking henchmen and unfathomable puzzles. That's what it is to be Nathan Drake, so roll with the punches and take the glory in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.
You can give as good as you get thanks to an expansive new melee combat system which lets Drake tear through thugs and adversaries in exhilarating fashion. From a frantic dust-up in a London pub which teaches you how to use the environment during brawls, to attacking unsuspecting enemies in the shadows of a castle, unarmed combat is far more than a last resort.
Thrilling set pieces rock your TV screen as Drake jumps, rolls and smashes from one explosive scenario to the next, picking up discarded weaponry as he goes. There's a scramble through dank catacombs to escape flesh-eating spiders, a hasty departure into the Arabian night which is halted in ballistic fashion and an intriguing trip into the past to enjoy.
Illustrious explorer Sir Francis Drake's tattered notes help you through tantalising puzzles whose solutions always seem just half a thought away. These offer a welcome change of pace and ensure you use brain, brawn and bullets on the dusty trail of the Atlantis of the Sands.
Catch your breath after reaching the end of Nathan Drake's Arabian quest, because you'll be revisiting its vibrant locations in the intense multiplayer modes of Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.
