A second bite at the Apple
New York City is still reeling from the destruction caused when Dr Curt Connors unleashed his alter ego, Lizard, on an unsuspecting public. And you, playing as Spider-Man, are about to step right back into the hornets' nest. In The Amazing Spider-Man on PlayStation 3, you'll fight a wave of public suspicion and deadly cross-species monsters to stop the Big Apple going rotten.
Picking up months after the spectacular events of The Amazing Spider-Man movie, you are invited into the top secret Oscorp HQ, Connors' old laboratory complex. Peter Parker discovers that catastrophic experiments are being carried out – and when one of the cross-species mutants detects Parker's own arachnid DNA, all hell breaks loose.
Manhattan becomes a mutant safari park, its skyscrapers and sewers the hideaways for a legion of test tube terrors including Scorpion, Iguana and Rhino, not to mention the robotic security force of Oscorp.
You'll cast your web wide in a quest to save New York City once more. Yet one man holds the key to preventing the entire city from being infected, and that's public enemy number one himself, Dr Curt Connors. Can you snuff out the mutant threat before public opinion turns against you? Swing into action on PS3 to find out.
Marvel at Manhattan
If the thrill-packed movie of the same name is the inspiration, then Marvel's comic book ink is the lifeblood of The Amazing Spider-Man on PS3. It runs through sinister, high-tech facilities with their imposing security doors as well as the Manhattan skyline, a rooftop playground full of acrobatic opportunities. As you slingshot between buildings, the city turns into a blur of architecture that could have been sketched by Marvel's own legendary artists.
Secret labs, hideouts, photo opportunities and a fast-paced story which has you criss-crossing the city on the trail of mutants all add up to a game which wears its comic book heritage proudly on its sleeve. The acting talent behind the voices in the game adds even more drama and humour – listen out for Nolan North, aka Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series, as well as Marvel movie regular Bruce Campbell and even Spider-Man creator himself, Stan Lee.
Look out for comic book pages fluttering through the Manhattan sky or perched on top of enormous buildings. If you collect enough of these hidden extras, you'll unlock rare Spider-Man graphic novels that can be read via a special in-game viewer. And with plenty of in-jokes and surprises dotted around the city, this is the ultimate Spider-Man experience for action fans and devoted webheads everywhere.
Grab your PlayStation Move motion controller, fire your web shooters and launch yourself into a titanic battle for New York City. You may not have the resources of Iron Man or the strength of Thor, yet your agility and perception are second to none.
Web Rush is a special feature that lets you slow down time to seek out surrounding threats. By pointing your motion controller at an enemy or open doorway, you'll whip through the air and take out a target in the blink of an eye, or fly through a gate before it slams shut.
Combat is just as fluid. Your Spidey Senses will alert you to an incoming attack, giving you time to dodge and retreat to a safe spot before unleashing a flurry of kicks, punches and signature moves. Your web shots will jam weaponry while, in classic Spider-Man style, you can hang from the ceiling to track enemies and then strike, causing panic in the room below you.
Despite the city's deep mistrust of you, your responsibility to those in need is never in doubt. You'll help the police chase down criminals, prevent street crimes and round up escaped convicts in this vast metropolis. Not only will you win over public opinion, you'll earn experience points to upgrade your abilities: you'll hit harder, swing further and move faster in this supercharged superhero adventure.
