A long time ago, magic fed the world and Faeries lived peacefully alongside mankind. However, as time went by, man began to grow doubtful of the Faery people, shunning them and slipping into a day-to-day life where magic had no place.
Watching from afar on the island of Avalon, King Oberon grew weary of mankind's disinterest and decided to order all Faeries out of the human realm and away from untrusting eyes.
Now, many years later something is happening. The magical realms that make up the Faery world are slowly disappearing, one by one. Summoning you from your lengthy slumber, King Oberon asks you to embark on a mission to uncover the mystery behind these strange and terrifying occurrences.
With a team of warriors by your side, you set off on your quest to save Avalon.
In Faery: Legends of Avalon you'll meet and interact with a huge roster of characters that roam around the ancient world that developer, Focus Home Interactive, has created. Upon waking from your long slumber you're greeted by Marylou and Marylis, two Faery twins tasked with welcoming you to this mystical world and sending you on your first mission: an introduction to Oberon. Oberon is the ruler of this strange world in Faery: Legends of Avalon, and reigns over his kingdom from a tower high up on the cliffs.
The first Faery you recruit on your quest to uncover the mystery as to why the realms of magic are disappearing is Aziel. She's fearless, and her adeptness in combat will serve you well during some of the game's tougher battles. Alongside Aziel, another useful character who will provide countless important pieces of information on your quest is Bert. He's also gifted with the power of Earth magic, making him a formidable ally in battle.
There's a wealth of other quirky characters you'll encounter and recruit including the skilled sword fighter, Amareta, Drake the dragon and Selim the Djinn.
At the outset of Faery: Legends of Avalon you can choose from either a male or female character, who can then be customised. Customisation options allow for changes in appearance, hairstyles, name and distinct make-up that helps set your character apart from the rest of the creatures roaming the land of Avalon.
As you progress, you can unlock new abilities and even new body parts that will have an affect on how you perform in combat. For example, when you equip your character with butterfly wings you're granted a special electrical attack, while placing an item such as a cat's tail on your character means you'll be able to dodge attacks faster than before.
Whenever you meet characters in the game you're given a number of responses that you can chose to progress the conversation. You can either respond politely or aggressively. Be mindful of these because if you offend a character too much they will remember and may not help you out later in the adventure.
Faery: Legends of Avalon also features branching storylines, which means that there are choices you'll make over the course of the quest that will ultimately affect how the game ends. With multiple endings achievable, there are plenty of reasons to go back and play through the game to see how different choices reflect different endings.
