Enemy of the States
The year is 1951, and the Chimera have launched their relentless attack on the United States of America. Innocent civilians are being slaughtered or turned into enemy troops and a state of panic is sweeping through the country.
Set after the events of Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance: Burning Skies follows the story of everyday New York fireman Tom Riley as this ferocious enemy invades his homeland. After seeing the devastation, Riley decides to stay and fight, while his wife and daughter flee the city.
Playing as Riley, will you be able to fight off the Chimeran troops and protect America from their reign of terror? Will you ever see your family again? Prepare for action-packed combat and blistering battles as you fight to save your home and be reunited with your wife and child.
Keep your finger on the trigger
As civilians run for their lives and enemy drop ships circle overhead to the sound of spraying bullets, it's obvious that New York is not a safe place right now - and you're right in the eye of the storm.
Those who have experienced previous Resistance titles on PlayStation 3 and PSP will know how brutal and gruesome the Chimera can be, and those who haven't are in for a thrilling ride. From the blood-thirsty, scuttling Leapers to the fire-spitting Hybrids, this is a group of enemies who mean business. Check out your foes in the Intel menu and you'll be able to see some tips and hints on how to face them head on.
Make sure you always keep your finger on the trigger, especially when you're alone. Nail-biting silence can suddenly be filled with the unfamiliar footsteps and snarls of Chimeran troops who lurk at every corner, waiting to pounce on an unsuspecting human.
Inventive cutscenes in the style of wartime radio broadcasts with static, cartoon visuals will keep you up to date on how the war against the ferocious enemy is progressing and will warn you of what's to come in this brutal battle for humanity.
A revolutionary battle
Portable first person shooters will never be the same again thanks to the original and innovative features of PlayStation Vita. Resistance: Burning Skies is the first FPS to launch on the revolutionary handheld, and sets incredible standards with its new and immersive controls.
As fireman Tom Riley, you must join the Resistance and fight back against the terrifying Chimera who have once again launched an attack on the human race. Straight away you'll find yourself using the PS Vita system's dual analog sticks to make your way through the ravaged city of New York while looking around to check you're not under threat.
There's no time to waste as you're instantly called to a raging fire, where you'll have your first encounter with the beastly Chimeran soldiers. Snarling, armed and completely fearless, these horrific creatures will show you no mercy, so grab what weapons you can find lying around and take them down before their reinforcements turn up. While you'll start off with your trusty fireman's axe, you'll soon find yourself a rifle, a crossbow, grenades and other impressive weapons that'll keep the enemy at bay. Remember to loot the Chimera once you've killed them and get your hands on some of their futuristic guns and ammo to help you see through walls and target grenades with precision.
Hitting targets is a breeze thanks to the PS Vita system's touchscreen, which you can tap to tag an enemy and aim your fire in his direction. You can also use it to load your crossbow and fire grenades with the quick swipe of a finger. Once you've got a hefty collection of firearms under your belt, press the Triangle button to bring up your weapon wheel and instantly select a new one by tapping it.
The rear touch pad will come in handy when you're being chased by a swarm of Leapers or dodging the fire of an Executioner. Keep tapping it to sprint to cover, and then press the Circle button to duck and replenish your health.
As well as the story-driven single player campaign, Resistance: Burning Skies also features three online multiplayer modes via PlayStation Network. Try your hand in a Deathmatch with up to seven other players and see how long you can survive, or join a team and go head-to-head in groups of two or four in Team Deathmatch.
If you fancy something a little more unique, have a go at Survival Mode - it pits players against each other in a race to the finish where only the strongest survive. You'll begin as one of six humans or two Chimera, fighting against each other. As the Chimera players make a kill, their human victims are resurrected as Chimera so the balance slowly shifts. The winner is the human player who lasts the longest in a match, and there'll be a timer running as you play so you can track your progress.
Before each match, vote for your favourite location - from the streets of Staten Island to the docks of Bayonne - and prepare for battle in a whole host of interesting and original locations.
