The FIFA Interactive World Cup is set to climax with the most exciting Grand Final in the event's seven-year history as the world's largest virtual football tournament sets its sights on Los Angeles in June 2011.
Pack the sun block - FIFA, PlayStation and EA SPORTS have announced that from 7 to 9 June 2011, Los Angeles will host this year's FIFA Interactive World Cup Grand Final. Running alongside E3, one of the world's biggest videogame shows, it promises to be one of the most exciting Grand Finals in the event's seven-year history.
Since December 2010, over 700,000 gamers from all over the world have competed online and at live qualification events worldwide in an effort to be one of the lucky 24 finalists that will ultimately be crowned the new FIFA Interactive World Cup Champion. All 24 finalists will be treated to a world-class, action-packed LA experience sampling the local sites before competing in the first knock-out stage which will cut the numbers of competitors down to the final 12.
"I'm so excited to hear the news that the FIFA Interactive World Cup is coming to the United States," said 2010 FIFA Interactive World Cup Champion Nenad Stojkovic. "It will be a great honour to welcome the challengers to Los Angeles and defend my title on home soil."
The final stage of the tournament will be held at the Home Depot Centre, home of David Beckham's LA Galaxy, on 9 June 2011, with a host of professional footballers on hand to cheer the remaining contestants on to a potential 20,000 USD first prize and a once-in-a-lifetime invitation to the FIFA Ballon d'Or 2011.
