Delsin Rowe lands on PlayStation 4. See what it's like to jump into Seattle as a superhuman.
A new hero
Seven years have passed since Cole MacGrath - the hero of inFAMOUS 2 on PlayStation 3 - made the ultimate sacrifice to rid the world of a deadly plague. Every ordinary human was at risk, but Cole used his own power to save them all. As a result, Conduits - people with special abilities like Cole - bit the dust, as did he.
However, not every Conduit died. In those seven years the remaining superhumans have become feared, labelled as bio-terrorists, and the Department of Unified Protection has risen up to safeguard the population from the threat of those with super powers.
Enter Delsin Rowe - a normal, 24-year-old Native American who spends much of his time winding up his older brother, Reggie the local sheriff. When a D.U.P. bio-terrorist transport vehicle crashes on its way to a secure facility, Delsin runs to the wreckage to help the survivors. But coming into contact with the Conduits has an impact he never could have imagined...
City on lockdown
The setting of Seattle will be familiar to some; however there's one big difference - the D.U.P. This government organisation has put the city on full lock-down, with stop and search points scattered through the streets and military police on every corner. They're even using the Space Needle as their main communications hub, and it casts a foreboding shadow across the city.
Prepare to gawp at the level of detail afforded by the power of PS4 in inFAMOUS Second Son. Look out for tiny features you might otherwise miss, like the fact that the majority of the population are walking around with smartphones, and will take a quick snap of almost anything - whether it's a soldier you've just beaten down or the wreck of a burning armoured patrol vehicle.
Destruction is another facet to inFAMOUS Second Son that really shows what the PS4 can do. When Delsin uses his most explosive powers, everything in the immediate vicinity is blasted into the air. Fire off a smoke powered rocket to see the dust particles and ash gently fall in the wake of your devastation.
Enjoy your power
Seattle is your playground, and boy do you have some great toys to play with! The entire city feels like it has been built with the sole purpose of having fun with your new found powers. Dash through the vents found on most buildings with the smoke ability to blast up to the roof in seconds, or simply run up the side of a building once you've conquered the power of neon.
Delsin's abilities and what happens when you use them are the real focus of the game, and it shows - every moment spent sprinting through the streets with a super-fast neon glow, or jetting above the city with smoke pouring from your fingertips is a blast.
The environment itself is what helps keep your powers topped up. Low on neon? Find a fluorescent sign to re-energise. Running out of smoke? Smash up a car and draw in some of the fumes to get back into the fight.
Combat is as varied as it is fun. Each new ability you acquire demands that you employ different tactics to succeed. For close quarters, the speed and vigour of smoke means you can wield Delsin's chain to unleash fiery justice on D.U.P. soldiers. If you're more of the sniper sort, neon allows you to shoot from a distance with startling precision.
Whether you're playing as a hero or anti-hero, you can supercharge your abilities to devastating effect using blast cores that can be found around the city. As you progress you'll need more blast cores to unlock the advanced abilities, so be sure to explore every nook and cranny of Seattle to track down every single one.
